About Me.
My name is Madalyn Mouton. I am from Lafayette, Louisiana. I am an honors student double majoring in civil and environmental engineering at Louisiana State University. I am part of the Ogden Honors College Louisiana Service and Leadership cohort (LASAL). I am interning with the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center in the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory in the River and Estuarine Branch.

Below are my leadership positions, work experiences, and research endeavors.

Student Intern at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering Research and Development Center
May 2021 - Present
I assist research efforts in the River and Estuarine Branch in the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory. These efforts have included the following.
- writing a literature review about changes on the Curve Number for Colorado
- writing waterbody descriptions of the Washington State's bays for shellfish regulations
- creating maps showing river features using ArcGIS for national streambank mitigation efforts

President of Louisiana State University American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter
January 2022 - December 2022
I led a team of 11 to put on events and meetings for civil engineering students. Some of those tasks were the following.
- organizing weekly meetings with industry for students to attend
- communicating with faculty, professional local chapter, and national chapter the needs of student chapter
- supporting team members by monthly meetings addressing progress and future goals
- assisting my career fair chair with reservation responsibilities of parking, catering, and lab facilities to put on our Annual ASCE Bayou Regional Career Fair

President of East Campus Apartments Community Council, LSU Residential Hall Association
August 2020 - May 2021
I led a team of 7 to create and put on events for our residential community. Some of my responsibilities included the following.
- leading my council members through brainstorming sessions for events
- overseeing each event and their activities to insure successful events
- discussing with residential advisor strategies in engaging with students while maintaining social distancing
- evaluating the turnout, budget of event, and students' experience to guide next event

Undergraduate Researcher
August 2019 - Present
I worked in three different labs at LSU. Those were Dr. Michael Polito's ecology lab, Dr. Clint Willson's Center for River Studies, and Dr. Navid Jafari's Coastal Geotechnics lab. My experiences in these labs included the following.
- grinding fish and plant samples to make protein samples to put in an isotope cannon to see how many oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen atoms were in them to see how healthy the food web in marshes were
- surveying potential sites and testing equipment for installing stream gages on Corporation Canal
- handling and cleaning sediment core samples to determine biomass amount at different surface levels
- measuring different metal byproducts mixed with hydrochloric acid in a calorimeter to determine heat created
